View from Cape and Islands

Interested in seeing what the wind park will look like? Cape Wind has produced computer simulations to show you just how the park will appear from a number of Cape and Islands locations and under different weather conditions. Environmental Design & Research, an environmental consulting firm, took photographs from several points o­n the Cape and Islands  and accurately superimposed the entire wind turbine array to illustrate how the park will appear. On an historical note, in 1995 o­ne of the first offshore wind parks was built in Tunoe Knob off the coast of Denmark. Prior to construction, there were considerable concerns from the local residents. The citizens were fearful that that the turbines would disturb the coastline, and tax revenue would be lost as the value of beachfront property declined. Today, the chairman of the opposition committee says “I don't know anyone who is bothered by the wind turbines. As a matter of fact nobody ever seems to talk about the wind turbines anymore.” The prices of beachfront property haven't been affected by the wind park. A local real estate agent explains, “Today, we never hear anything about the wind turbines.” During planning, a local nature conservancy organization protested the project, but a spokesman admits that “we have no knowledge of negative impacts.” Click here to learn more about how well this wind park fits in with the community.
