August 4, Cape Cod Times Letter to the Editor:
Obama and Cape Wind offer energy solutions
The threat of global warming is real, and we need a comprehensive plan to address global warming and our energy needs.
Barack Obama as president would create millions of new clean energy jobs and would support renewable energy, fuel economy and energy efficiency. Cape Wind would provide much-needed affordable clean energy for all of Cape Cod.
Let's support both Mr. Obama and Cape Wind.

Wind farm detractor overlooks endorsements
Terry Martorana (Letters, July 18) may not be aware that the Massachusetts Audubon Society has conditionally endorsed Cape Wind. As have Dan Wolf, president of Cape Air, and Capt. Richard Elrick, who has sailed on Nantucket Sound for 30 years.
How is the Cape Wind energy project an economic boondoggle? Wind is competitive with fossil fuels and nuclear. Last year 30 percent of our installed electrical capacity was wind!
Martorana also may not be aware that Cape Wind would be privately financed, costing us nothing. Or that the federal production tax credit of 1.2 cents per kilowatt-hour doesn't cost us a penny. Wouldn't we all like to lock into a long-term power purchase agreement for 15-20 years and save on our electric bills?
The bottom line is that Cape Wind is a viable renewable energy project.

Alliance hopes repetition stands in for verification
Ever noticed how, if you repeat something often enough, people come to accept it as truth? This is how many came to believe that John Kerry displayed cowardice in Vietnam and how many people today believe that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
The Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound is especially proficient at this tactic. Take the following statement from the alliance's Web site: "... federal and state taxpayers would be paying over $1.3 billion in tax credits and subsidies over the life of this project."
The problem is that, although the alliance quotes the $1.3 billion number in nearly every press release, it has never substantiated that number. This writer has asked the alliance to source its numbers multiple times but, predictably, never received a response.
Participants in the Cape Wind debate should demand that the alliance provide backup for its numbers. Until it does this, we should treat its numbers — especially the silly $1.3 billion tax incentive number — as unsubstantiated propaganda.

July 24, Cape Cod Times Letter to the Editor:
Facts about Cape Wind can curb fear mongering
The former president of the board of directors of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod has resigned his post partly because he is concerned about how Cape Wind is going to connect to the electrical grid.
The Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board spent 36 months studying this issue. It has approved the connection via cables to the grid at least twice.
Given that there is no issue with the connection to the power grid, it would seem that this is another instance of misinformation and fear mongering dividing a board of directors of an important environmental organization.
If everyone would just check out the facts about Cape Wind, there could be much less division and misunderstanding.
