Each year many thousands of visitors come to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to enjoy the pristine beauty, famous beaches and historic sites. Many of us at Cape Wind are long-time Cape residents and know personally what a key role tourism and recreation play in the region’s economy. For these reasons Cape Wind is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the Cape while ensuring its economic future by providing clean energy to power the region.

As part of our commitment to the region’s tourism industry, Cape Wind is conducting exhaustive studies of the possible impacts o­n recreational boating, fishing and water sports. By placing the turbines in the shallow water of Horseshoe Shoal, we ensure that they will not interfere with large ships. With each turbine about o­ne third of a mile apart, the wind park will be easily navigated by recreational boaters and fisherman.

The project may even improve the catches of recreational fisherman. The sheltered environment created by the pilings provides an excellent habitat for any number of aquatic species, including scup, flounder and Atlantic mackerel.
