Deval Patrick, first gubernatorial candidate to support Cape Wind, wins big

Deval Patrick won the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts Governor with 50% of the vote in a 3-way race.  Patrick's support was even stronger on Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket where he won every town and earned 53% of the vote overall. 

The two candidates supporting Cape Wind, Deval Patrick and Chris Gabrieli, got a combined vote of 74% on the Cape and Islands.

Healey encounters pro-Cape Wind residents

(CBS4) HYANNIS It's one of the most controversial political issues in Massachusetts. And Thursday, the Republican nominee for governor waded into the battle over a wind-energy farm proposed off the south coast of Cape Cod.

Several dozen pro-wind farm activists heckled and chanted at Lt. Gov. Healey as she underlined her opposition to the huge wind-energy farm a developer wants to build in Nantucket Sound.

The Cape Codder newspaper reports the results of their online poll on Cape Wind that found a majority of local online participants opposed, as well as a reporter's survey of beachgoers at Craigville Beach that found most in support - to their credit, the Cape Codder acknowledges in these articles that neither survey was scientific

Last year, an independent scientific survey of public opinion on the Cape and Islands on Cape Wind, commissioned by the Cape Cod Times and WCAI / WNAN, found an even split in public opinion.

Cape Cod Wind Power Backers Confident of U.S. Approval

Backers of a plan to build the first large U.S. offshore wind-power farm said Thursday they were confident the project would clear a regulatory review after being nearly derailed in Washington.

A public comment period ends Friday for the plan by Cape Wind Associates LLC, a privately funded Boston energy company, to build 130 wind turbines in Nantucket Sound within view of the wealthy Cape Cod resort region of Massachusetts.

Selectmen rebuke Alliance

While the Chatham Board of Selectmen has gone on record as opposing the Cape Wind project, it voted 3-2 to deny a request from the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound to send a letter to the Minerals Management Service.
