Windmills get lift

The severity of last winter's emergency electricity shortage would have been lessened had a proposed offshore collection of soaring wind-driven generators in Nantucket Sound been up and running, a U.S. Energy Department report says.  The DOE study, compiled for the region's power grid manager, says the state needs to promote renewable energy sources to reduce pollution and offset New England's growing reliance on natural gas to generate power.
